Projects:

  • ‘’Phenotypic Characterization and Investigation of Progressive Molecular Pathology Including Neurotransmitter System Dynamics in A53T rat’’: Rising evidence is now driving efforts to look at Parkinson’s Disease (PD) as not only a disease of the brain, with emerging concepts referring to PD as a syndrome, or a multi-organ disorder.
Indeed, abnormal aggregations of the protein alpha-synuclein have been detected in the guts, pancreas, liver, and kidneys.
With this project, the aim is to try to investigate spatial and temporal patterns of α-Synuclein aggregation in the brain and several peripheral organs, while observing the parallel progression of behavioral symptoms in a transgenic model of PD.
  •  ‘’Focused Ultrasound Mediated Drug Delivery for α-Synuclein Disaggregation and Neuroprotection in Parkinson’s Disease in Rat Models’’: Considering the multifaceted nature of Parkinson’s Disease, and using a transgenic animal model of PD, we aim to utilize focused ultrasound to locally deliver therapeutics that target different angles of the pathology.
