Over Paloma

Paloma is a biochemist (University of Chile) with a Doctorate in Neurosciences (Paris Descartes University). She’s focused her research on postnatal brain development and, in particular, trying to understand how cellular and neuronal network mechanisms are affected by the relationships between caregivers and infants. Paloma aims to close the gap between academic research and child/adolescent needs, promoting knowledge-sharing and raising awareness among policymakers, social stakeholders and families.

Her current projects include:

1) The impact of early life adversity on the perception of other’s pain

2) Modulation of state-dependent brain activity by maternal odor

3) Effect of maternal experience on the developing of primary visual cortex

4) Spontaneous activity and multi-sensory integration in the developing higher-order cortex

5) Investigating the interactions between environmental and individual factors for early lexical acquisition in preterm infants (collaborator Fondecyt Regular N1241884)
