What you will be doing

The Primary functions of this position (BT) are to perform animal care and husbandry procedures (rodents and NHPs), to support experimental procedures (rodents and NHPs) and to improve their refinement. You will participate in writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and you will be working with related databases. You will also be included in the weekend roster to take care of animals.

What you will be contributing

You will contributing to improve the 3Rs in experimental procedures in rodents and NHP, therefore following requirements are needed:

  • at least 2 years proven experience with animal care and basic experimental procedures on rodents – at least 6 months proven experience with animal care on NHPs (Rhesus macaque) is desirable
  • understanding of anatomy and physiology of rodents and NHPs
  • understanding of ethical principles, European regulations, and accepted standards for animal research
  • MBO education.
  • Fluent in English. Knowledge of Dutch is desirable

You will join the Animal Facilities department, that has a staff of 11, and you will be part of both the rodents and NHPs teams. Your motivation and attitude will help to improve animal welfare undergoing experimental procedures and will help researchers to improve their science with more robust and reliable data.

Your workplace

The Animal Facilities Department is responsible for housing, breeding and care of laboratory animals, and provides support for animal experimental research within the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience. The Department has a team of 11 and works in close connection with neuroscientists and the local IvD.

Terms of employment

Depending on education and experience the minimum salary is​ € 2618,00 and  the maximum salary is​ €  3149,00 gross per month for a full-time appointment (scale 5 cao Nederlandse Universiteiten/KNAW). This is exclusive of 8% vacation allowance, 8.3% year-end bonus, travel allowance, internet allowance, home working allowance and pension accrual with ABP.
