Title: Neural mechanisms of invasive neurostimulation in psychiatric disorders.
Abstract:
Invasive neurostimulation is used for patients with depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) who do not respond to other treatments. Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) is the oldest and still most effective treatment for depression. And recently, deep brain stimulation (DBS) has become a standard treatment option for patients with refractory OCD. But despite their efficacy, we know little about how these treatments exert their effect. I will present our recent neuroimaging studies which show how neurostimulation changes brain structure and function. And I will show how we can use neuroimaging to improve DBS targeting, and to select those patients that are most likely to respond to treatment with machine learning.
