Brain donors and tissue are well characterized and disseminated open access to researchers worldwide. Recently the NBB started ‘The Netherlands Neurogenetics Database” (NND) project in which clinical, pathological and genetic donor data are prepared for analysis to determine polygenic risk scores for brain diseases and facilitate donor selection for research. The Neuroimmunology Research (IMM) group in the NIN, led by Prof. Inge Huitinga, studies the innate and adaptive immune responses in multiple sclerosis (MS) and psychiatric diseases using postmortem human brain tissue provided by the NBB.

The tasks overall concern the assistance of the analysis of post-mortem human brain tissue in all aspects:

  • Gene expression analysis (qPCR, RNAseq)
  • DNA isolation for GWAS and whole genome sequencing
  • Immunohistochemistry on human post-mortem brain tissue
  • Different microscopic techniques (light microscope, CLSM, STED)
  • Isolation, in vitro culture and experimental analysis of primary human glia cells
  • Isolation and analysis of primary cells and nuclei from frozen tissue

Qualifications

  • Strong interest in human brain research
  • Knowledge of and experience with immunohistochemistry, microscopy (light, fluorescence, STED) and molecular techniques such as RNA and DNA isolation, qPCR and RNA scope
